Also, Luminon assisted Merle McKenna (AME) for Rugby World Cup 1995 producing the opening and closing ceremonies. We produced the WesBank Car of the Year event for seven years (incl. 2008), the SAB Sports Journalists of the Year Awards for eight years and was commissioned by the USA to produce a video for the 1999 Academy Awards.
We have also produced personal videos for former Presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki. 2005 and 2006 were special years as we were part of Oprah Winfrey's production team which gave an incredible Christmas to 900 orphans and opened the exclusive Henley-on-Klip girls school. Then we finished the year producing and directing all the events during the SA Golf Open at Fancourt Links 2005 and Humewood Golf Club in Port Elizabeth 2006 for sponsors South African Airways.
Cal wrote exams in January 2001 in the United States of America, and successfully attained international recognition as a Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP). Only 550 people worldwide have this accreditation through the George Washington University (two from South Africa). The CSEP designation is the hallmark of professional achievement in the special events industry, earned through education, performance and service to the industry.
In 2007, Cal was invited along with 25 other professionals sponsored by Services Seta to study for a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Special Events at the prestigious University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business (rated 9th best in the world). This two year pilot degreed course finished in May 2009 with Cal and nine other students qualifying for NQF7 which at the moment is the highest special events qualification in the world.
Cal is also a qualified SETA trainer and assessor and was involved with South Africa's first pilot learnership project with Party Design. He is also a qualified SA Host. This company has traveled the world for over 20 years and has shot programs in more than thirty countries across six continents giving us an established video library of amazing and original footage. Luminon produced the "Gift for Africa" video for the 1999 Oscar Ceremony, which was broadcast on CBS, NBC, and ABC in the United States of America.
